The Ukrainian military has achieved a significant victory by destroying a Russian Niebo-M radar system using ATACMS missiles.

Creates Air Corridor for Ukraine

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, this loss is particularly severe for Russia, as each Niebo-M radar is valued at over $100 million, and only ten of these systems remain operational, according to WP.

The Niebo-M radar is an advanced air defense system crucial to Russia's military operations. It operates in a covert mode, scanning the horizon for airborne objects and employing sophisticated algorithms to detect, track, and intercept both aerodynamic and ballistic targets.

The destruction of this radar not only undermines Russia's ability to effectively monitor its airspace but also creates a “air corridor” for the Ukrainian military, enhancing the operational use of its Storm Shadow and SCALP-EG cruise missiles.

Hampers Ability to Track

The Niebo-M radar boasts a 360-degree detection capability, allowing it to monitor airspace from multiple directions simultaneously. Its advanced technology, including active electronically scanned array (AESA), makes it a challenging target to neutralize.

Losing such a critical component of Russia's air defense significantly hampers its ability to identify and track various aerial threats, including aircraft, drones, and guided missiles.

As Ukraine continues to leverage its military capabilities effectively, the destruction of the Niebo-M radar marks another step in its ongoing efforts to counter Russian aggression and reclaim control over its airspace.
