In the early hours of September 9, Russian forces launched an air attack on Kyiv using Shahed-type drones.

This marks the fifth air assault on the Ukrainian capital since the start of the month, according to the Kyiv City Military Administration on Telegram.

The drones were launched from Russia's Kursk region and targeted the city in several waves, with air raid sirens sounding for over an hour.

Sergei Popko, head of Kyiv’s military administration, confirmed that all drones were intercepted by air defense systems before reaching the capital.

There have been no reports of casualties or damage.

Ukraine's Air Force Command reported that Russia fired three Kh-59/69 guided missiles and eight Shahed drones at various targets across Ukraine overnight. Of these, two missiles and six drones were shot down by Ukrainian air defense. Additionally, two drones were disrupted by electronic warfare systems, causing them to lose direction and crash in Ukraine.

The Ukrainian military noted that one of the missiles failed to reach its target due to active countermeasures. Air defense systems were operational in the Kyiv, Cherkasy, Sumy, and Dnipropetrovsk regions during the attack.
