Late Friday night, a Russian missile struck the city of Dnipro in eastern Ukraine, killing four people, including a young child, and injuring at least 20 others, local officials reported.

Young People Wounded

The missile hit shortly before midnight, severely damaging residential buildings, houses, and a hospital.

Among the wounded were an 8-year-old girl, a 16-year-old girl, and two 17-year-old boys. The attack underscores the toll on civilians as the conflict continues, with residential areas frequently in the crosshairs.

Serhi Lisak, Dnipro’s regional governor, shared details on Telegram, posting images showing the destruction and a hospital room with shattered windows, reflecting the broader impact on critical infrastructure, according to Digi24.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky responded by condemning those behind the attacks as “Russian killers,” highlighting the intense suffering that civilians continue to face.

Civilian Targets

Other regions in Ukraine also came under attack Friday night.

A drone strike in Kyiv, the capital, killed a teenage girl and injured six others when a Russian drone hit a residential building, sparking a fire.

The tragedy in Kyiv deepens concerns about growing attacks on populated areas and the added strain on emergency services.

Zelensky’s comments came just days after the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia, where international leaders from Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa called for peace. However, the Ukrainian president dismissed these calls as inadequate given the ongoing violence.

He also declined to meet with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres after Guterres attended the summit and met with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Ukrainian officials signaled that Zelensky’s decision was a reaction to what they see as insufficient international action against Russia.

The attacks on Dnipro and Kyiv reveal the ongoing severity of the conflict. Russian forces continue to target civilian infrastructure, raising humanitarian concerns.
