Russian Drone Attack Near EU Border: Romania Sends Fighter Jets

Early Saturday morning, the Romanian Ministry of Defense scrambled two F-16 aircraft from the Borcea air base in response to Russian drone attacks near the border with Ukraine.

Debris Fell From Sky

According to Digi24 residents in Tulcea County received RO-Alert messages warning of potential debris falling from the sky due to the conflict in Ukraine.

According to the Ministry of Defense, the drones were detected approaching Ukrainian territory near Romania's border, prompting immediate action. The F-16s conducted surveillance operations and returned to base once the alert was lifted, with no confirmed incidents of fallen objects on Romanian soil.

"In the morning of July 6, Russian forces carried out a new series of attacks on targets in Ukraine, near the border with Romania in Tulcea County," the Ministry of Defense stated. This escalation led to heightened vigilance and precautionary measures to safeguard Romanian airspace and border regions.

No Objects Identified

The National Military Command Center notified the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations to alert residents in Tulcea County starting at 06:38 local time.

Searches were initiated between the towns of Vulturul, Mahmudia, and Maliuc to investigate any potential debris, with ongoing efforts throughout the day.

"As of now, no suspicious objects have been identified, and search operations will continue," assured the Ministry.

Measures were lifted by 07:50, with Romanian authorities ensuring constant communication with allied structures to manage the evolving situation effectively.
