Georgy Zakrevski, the head of the private military company (PMC) Paladin, has made a dramatic call for the Russian military to overthrow President Vladimir Putin.
Significant Threat
Accordingto Ziare this marks one of the most significant threats to Putin’s regime since the Wagner Group’s revolt last year.
Zakrevski, founder of PMC Paladin, a relatively obscure military group with around 300 members, has issued a blistering critique of Putin’s leadership. In a video statement, Zakrevski blamed Putin for Russia’s military setbacks in Ukraine and accused him of being the root cause of the country’s economic and social problems.
“Our country is not just on the brink of disaster; it is already experiencing major issues,” Zakrevski declared and continued:
“Drones are flying over central Russia, even reaching Moscow and St. Petersburg. They have even attacked the Kremlin. Our Black Sea Fleet is being pushed out as if we were a third-rate country. Our aviation is practically non-functional because it, too, is being pushed out. We are in the same positions we were in over two years ago, and in some cases, we’ve retreated.”
Deteriorating under Putin's Rule
Zakrevski’s condemnation extended to the suffering of the Russian populace, whom he described as deteriorating under Putin’s rule.
He criticized the lack of concern for the population’s plight, claiming that the administration is more focused on bringing in immigrants than addressing domestic issues.
The video, which has circulated widely within the Russian military, presents a stark and alarming challenge to the Kremlin.
This latest outburst recalls the June 2023 rebellion led by Yevgeny Prigozhin of the Wagner Group, who had previously marched his forces toward Moscow in a dramatic challenge to Putin’s authority.
