Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is facing criticism from Russian officials for his recent statements that may potentially draw NATO into the ongoing conflict with Russia.

Encourages NATO to Intercept Missiles

Vladimir Dzhabarov, the First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council’s International Affairs Committee, has accused Zelensky of attempting to escalate the war by encouraging NATO to intercept Russian missiles over Ukrainian territory, according to Lenta.

Zelensky's recent comments included a call for NATO to shoot down Russian missiles approaching Ukraine, a move he believes is necessary despite concerns from neighboring countries about potential retaliation from Moscow. This, according to Dzhabarov, suggests Zelensky’s claims about being open to negotiations with Russia were insincere.

A Dangerous Provocation

The Russian senator argues that Zelensky’s push for NATO involvement is a dangerous provocation that could lead to a broader conflict.

“If NATO countries begin intercepting our missiles or engaging in other military actions from their territory or bases, it would escalate into a major war,” Dzhabarov said. He accused Zelensky of prioritizing his own political survival and regime over peace, suggesting that his actions are “absolutely immoral.”

In response to the heightened tensions, Zelensky recently confirmed the arrival of F-16 fighter jets in Ukraine, expressing gratitude to the United States, Denmark, and the Netherlands for supporting Ukraine's request for military equipment.
