In times of war, security agencies work tirelessly to prevent attacks and protect innocent lives.
In Ukraine, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has been keeping a close watch on potential threats.
Recently, they managed to stop a major terrorist attack in the heart of Kiev, thanks to their swift action and intelligence gathering, reports Ziare.
A 22-year-old woman from Lviv was arrested by the SBU after she was found carrying a homemade bomb.
The device contained enough explosives, around 7 kilograms of TNT, to cause severe damage to a building and kill anyone nearby.
She had been recruited by Russian agents to carry out the attack. The Russians had targeted her because of her desperate need for money.
She had been searching for quick cash on Telegram when she was approached by her handlers.
The woman traveled to Kiev on the orders of her Russian contacts, who had already arranged a place for her to stay.
After moving into her rented apartment, she set up a hidden camera on the balcony to monitor the area.
This allowed the Russians to watch the street in real-time. They also wanted to film the aftermath of the attack, believing it would help them with their objectives.
The SBU, acting on their intelligence, caught the woman in the act. They intercepted her just as she took the explosives from her hiding place and began moving toward the target.
During the arrest, officers also confiscated her phone, which she had been using to communicate with Russian agents.
Now, the young woman faces life in prison. She will likely lose everything, including her freedom and assets.
The SBU’s quick response prevented what could have been a deadly terrorist attack in the heart of the Ukrainian capital.
This successful operation serves as a reminder of the ongoing risks posed by foreign operatives and the relentless work of Ukrainian security forces.
