Evgeny Poddubny, a prominent war correspondent for Russia’s state television, survived a Ukrainian drone strike on Wednesday in the Kursk region of southern Russia, according to Ziare and Russian officials.
In Intensive Care
Poddubny is currently receiving intensive care at a local hospital, as reported by Reuters.
Rossiya-24, via Telegram, announced that Poddubny was targeted by a Ukrainian drone while covering developments in the Kursk region.
This area is currently a hotspot as the Russian military claims to be battling to contain an incursion of approximately 1,000 Ukrainian soldiers.
The Russian Ministry of Health confirmed that Poddubny, 40, remains conscious and is in intensive care. “He is receiving the necessary treatment,” the Ministry stated.
Working on a Report
Poddubny, known for his extensive coverage of Russia’s military operations in Ukraine, was reportedly working on a report about the situation in Kursk when the attack occurred. He has also covered conflicts in Syria, making him a seasoned reporter in high-risk environments.
The Russian Investigative Committee, tasked with probing severe crimes, has announced its intention to determine those responsible for the drone attack. The committee also indicated that Poddubny will be awarded a prize for his work.
The Committee to Protect Journalists has documented the deaths of at least 17 journalists since Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
