Russia's ongoing military strategy, which involves the extensive use of precision-guided bombs, has taken a troubling turn by targeting not only Ukrainian cities but also its own territories.

Severe Bombardments

The town of Sudzha, located in the Kursk Oblast, has recently experienced severe bombardments similar to those inflicted on Ukrainian cities. This tactic reveals the harsh reality of Russia's warfare approach, as evidenced by the damage caused to local infrastructure, according to WP.

According to reports, Sudzha, once home to around 5,000 people before the Kursk operation, now has a drastically reduced population of approximately 200 residents.

Ukrainian sources have confirmed that Russian forces are employing guided FAB bombs, specifically those equipped with UMPK modules, to devastating effect.

On August 30, a Russian bomb struck a local kindergarten, while additional attacks targeted private homes in Sudzha. This pattern of aggression underscores the indiscriminate nature of Russia's tactics, which have left the town in ruins.

Blast Radius of Several Hundred Meters

The FAB bombs with UMPK modules, used extensively by Russia since early 2023, are a variant of American JDAM-ER bombs.

These munitions are designed for long-range precision attacks, enabling Russian aircraft to strike targets from a safe distance, outside the reach of many short-range air defense systems.

The UMPK modules enhance the bomb's accuracy by incorporating deployable wings and advanced guidance systems based on inertial and satellite navigation.

Despite their precision, the FAB bombs are known for their considerable explosive power.

A 500 kg, 1500 kg, or even 3-ton bomb can cause significant destruction, with the FAB-3000 variant being particularly devastating due to its over 1.5 tons of TNT

The effective blast radius of such bombs can reach several hundred meters, making them highly destructive even if they miss their target by several meters.
