The Russian Belgorod region, situated near the border with Ukraine, has announced plans to install 300 concrete shelters to protect residents from escalating security threats.
Regional officials confirmed on August 22 that 100 million rubles have been allocated for the construction of these shelters, which will be strategically placed in border areas to enhance civilian safety.
Vyacheslav Gladkov, the governor of Belgorod, shared details of the initiative in a morning video address. He emphasized the importance of these shelters in safeguarding local communities.

RUC reports that the Belgorod region has been a frequent target of shelling by Ukrainian forces since the onset of Russia's military invasion in Ukraine.
In response to the persistent threats, Governor Gladkov declared an indefinite terrorist threat level across the region in February 2023.
The area has also faced missile threats and drone attacks.
The most recent incident occurred on July 1, when an "external impact on the power facility" caused widespread power outages.
The installation of concrete shelters is viewed as a critical measure to protect civilians from further attacks.
