The U.N.'s World Food Program (WFP) has allocated $2.1 billion in aid to Ukraine for the period from 2025 to 2027, Ukraine’s Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced on Nov. 20 via Telegram.
The funds are aimed at providing humanitarian assistance, supporting civilians, continuing the demining process, and boosting Ukraine's agricultural exports to international markets.
This support comes in response to the extensive damage caused by Russia’s invasion, which has inflicted an estimated $80 billion worth of destruction on Ukraine’s agricultural sector.
Prior to the war, Ukraine’s agricultural output was vital in feeding 400 million people globally.
However, the ongoing conflict has disrupted supply chains and trade routes, leading to soaring food prices worldwide.
The U.N. and other international organizations are working with Ukraine to help restore agricultural production and ease the global food crisis exacerbated by the war.
Shmyhal emphasized the importance of continuing these efforts, highlighting the need to ensure that Ukraine remains a key player in global food security.
This financial commitment from the WFP is part of a broader international effort to support Ukraine’s recovery and its agricultural sector, which is critical not only for Ukraine’s economy but for global food stability in the wake of the ongoing conflict.
