Former UK Defense Minister Tobias Ellwood has urged Prime Minister Keir Starmer to permit the Ukrainian Armed Forces to use Western-supplied long-range missiles to strike targets inside Russia. This call was reported by the Lenta.

No Restrictions

Ellwood argues that Ukraine's hands should not be tied by restrictions on the use of British, French, and American long-range cruise missiles. He believes these weapons could play a crucial role in disrupting Russian military operations in Ukraine.

Former British MP Bob Seely echoed Ellwood's sentiments, questioning the distinction between offensive and defensive targets for Ukrainian strikes on Russia. He criticized such distinctions as "absurd language games" and stated that any military facility used to conduct operations in Ukraine is a legitimate target.

Defensive Purposes

Previously, Prime Minister Starmer had asserted that Kyiv has the right to determine its targets using British-supplied weapons strictly "for defensive purposes" and within the bounds of international humanitarian law.

On July 19, UK Defense Minister John Healey indicated that London does not rule out the possibility of Ukraine using supplied weapons to strike Russia.
