Ukraine’s military is testing a new type of guided bomb, as revealed in a recently released video.

Testing New Weapon

The footage, shared by Ukrainian officials, shows a Su-24M bomber carrying an unidentified guided bomb while being escorted by a Su-27UB fighter jet, according to WP. This trial signals a significant development in Ukraine's ongoing efforts to strengthen its military capabilities amidst the ongoing conflict.

Ukraine has a history of adapting and upgrading its equipment, particularly in recent months. The military recently gained attention for converting drones to carry thermite, transforming them into aerial flamethrowers.

This innovation was quickly mirrored by Russian forces. Now, Ukraine appears to be testing a new weapon that has sparked widespread speculation.

U.S. May Produce 1,000 a Year

Defense analysts suggest several possibilities for the new bomb. It could be Ukraine’s response to Russia's UMPK guided bomb, or perhaps a counterpart to France's AASM Hammer.

Another theory involves the U.S.-made ERAM rocket bomb, rumored to be in production for Ukraine, with a range exceeding 450 kilometers. Reports indicate that the U.S. may produce up to 1,000 of these bombs per year, though details on the weapon remain scarce.

The Su-24M bomber, a Soviet-era aircraft, plays a key role in this test. Known for its versatility and advanced avionics, the Su-24M can carry a wide range of weapons, including guided and unguided bombs, rockets, and air-to-surface missiles.

This tactical bomber has been a crucial asset in the Ukrainian Air Force, and it has been adapted to deploy Ukraine's new military innovations.

While specifics about the bomb’s capabilities remain unknown, Ukraine’s testing of such weapons demonstrates the country’s continued focus on upgrading its arsenal to meet the demands of modern warfare.
