Ukraine Delivers Critical Blow: Russian Zoopark Radar Destroyed in Precision Strike

Ukrainian forces have dealt another blow to Russia’s military by targeting and severely damaging a Zoopark-1M counter-battery radar system in the Donetsk region.

Ukrainian rocket artillery continues to make strides on the battlefield, as the 45th Separate Artillery Brigade successfully targeted a Russian Zoopark-1M counter-battery radar in the eastern region.

Spotted by aerial reconnaissance, the radar was struck by precision rocket fire, with footage released on Telegram by the brigade showcasing the attack.

The Zoopark-1M system was positioned near a forest plantation and located by a drone.

Two missiles were fired at the radar, with one missing and the other landing nearby, causing critical damage. As the combat vehicle attempted to flee the area, a fire broke out, forcing the crew to abandon the radar.

This strike marks another instance of Ukraine’s rocket artillery neutralizing high-value Russian military assets.

In late August, Shark reconnaissance drones from the 15th Artillery Reconnaissance Brigade guided a strike on a similar Zoopark-M1 radar in Zaporizhzhia, which was destroyed by a GMLRS rocket. Ukrainian forces have continuously disrupted Russia’s military capabilities by eliminating these vital counter-battery systems.

According to Oryx OSINT data, Russia has lost several such systems during the conflict, including two Zoopark (1L219) units, four Zoopark-1 (1L259) radars, and 14 Zoopark-1M (1L261) radars.

The Importance of the Zoopark-1 System

The Zoopark-1 radar system plays a key role in reconnaissance and artillery fire control for Russian forces.

As reported by Militaryi, the Zoopark-1 radar tracks the trajectories of incoming artillery, mortars, and rockets, allowing Russian units to locate the source of enemy fire and adjust their counterattacks.

Mounted on a MT-LB tracked platform, the radar can detect 120mm mortar positions at up to 17 kilometers, howitzers at 12 kilometers, and rocket launches from systems like the BM-21 Grad and BM-27 Uragan at distances of up to 40-45 kilometers.

This latest strike on a Zoopark-1M radar system severely limits Russia’s ability to counter Ukrainian artillery.
