The war in Ukraine has reshaped modern conflict, bringing high-tech weapons, drone warfare, and long-range missile strikes into daily battles.
Both sides have suffered heavy losses, and as the fighting continues, strategic attacks against military infrastructure play a critical role.
Ukraine has relied on precision strikes to weaken Russian positions, disrupt command structures, and push back against advancing forces.
Hit Command Post Directly
On December 30, Ukrainian forces launched a missile strike on the Russian-occupied city of Lgov in the Kursk region.
Reports indicate that the attack used British-supplied Storm Shadow missiles and caused significant damage to the Russian military, according to Ziare.
The strike targeted the headquarters of Russia’s 76th Guards Air Assault Division, resulting in the deaths of multiple high-ranking officers.
At least three lieutenant colonels — Valery Tereshchenko, Pavel Maletsky, and Alexei Seliverstov — were confirmed among the dead.
Additionally, Major Ali Tsurov from Ingushetia was also killed.
Sources suggest that eight senior officers lost their lives, while at least 22 others were injured.
The attack struck the command post directly, causing serious disruptions to Russian operations in the area.
Reports from Ukrainian sources, including war correspondent Yuriy Butusov, confirm that the damage to the headquarters was severe.
This latest strike represents Ukraine’s ongoing efforts to weaken Russia’s military leadership and limit its ability to coordinate attacks.
Beyond military losses, the missile strike also affected civilians in the area.
The interim governor of the Kursk region, Alexander Khinshtein, reported that an 86-year-old woman was seriously injured by shrapnel, leading to the amputation of her legs.
Additionally, an apartment building with eight units sustained damage.
