The ongoing war in Ukraine has had a devastating impact on children. The conflict continues to take a heavy toll, with thousands of children suffering from its horrors.
According to the Prosecutor General's Office, as of April 5, 616 children have died as a result of the war, according to Ukrinform. In total, 2,479 children have been injured, with 1,863 facing varying degrees of harm.
The worst-hit regions include Donetsk, where 636 children have been affected, and Kharkiv, which has seen 480 child casualties.
Other regions like Kherson, Dnipropetrovsk, Kyiv, Zaporizhia, Mykolaiv, and Sumy have also suffered significant losses.
The situation is particularly tragic in areas targeted by missile strikes. On April 4, a deadly attack in Kryvyi Rih killed nine children, including two girls aged 7 and 15, and seven boys aged between 3 and 16.
Another 11 children were injured in this attack, including an 8-month-old girl and boys and girls ranging from 3 months to 15 years old.
Earlier, on April 3, a 12-year-old girl was killed in an attack in Kharkiv, and two other girls, aged 12 and 17, were injured.
The war continues to affect children in every part of Ukraine. Even on April 2, a 6-year-old girl and an 8-year-old boy were injured in Kryvyi Rih. A 10-year-old boy in Kharkiv was also hurt that same day.
In addition to those harmed by bombings, an alarming number of children are being deported or forced to live in Russian-controlled territories.
Ukrainian human rights activists estimate that up to 1.6 million Ukrainian children are under Russian control.
They are either taken to Russia or held in temporarily occupied regions of Ukraine.
This situation is a heartbreaking reminder of the devastating effects of war on the youngest and most vulnerable.
