Ukraine has formally requested permission from the United States to deploy ATACMS long-range missiles against Russian airbases in an effort to counteract potential threats to the Kursk region.

Help Maintain Control

This request, reported by URA, comes amid heightened tensions and ongoing conflicts in the region.

According to an unnamed advisor to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the use of ATACMS missiles could significantly impact Russia's military capabilities in the Kursk area.

Ukrainian officials believe that such a move would help them maintain control over certain territories and bolster their defensive strategies against Russian advances.

The ATACMS missiles, known for their long range and precision, would allow Ukrainian forces to strike deeper into Russian-held territories. This strategic shift is seen as a potential game-changer in the ongoing conflict, particularly given the strategic importance of the Kursk region.

No Support Yet

The request follows recent comments by Pentagon spokesperson Sabrina Singh, who stated that while the U.S. does not support the use of American weapons for strikes inside Russia, it acknowledges Ukraine's actions in the Kursk region as being consistent with U.S. policy.

Singh’s remarks highlight the complex balance the U.S. is trying to maintain between supporting Ukraine and managing the geopolitical implications of further escalation.

This development comes at a time when Russia's military activities in and around Kursk have intensified. Ukrainian forces have been engaged in efforts to defend their positions and disrupt Russian operations, and the potential use of ATACMS missiles could provide a significant tactical advantage.
