Ukrainian forces have captured their third Russian T-80BVM tank, according to Tech.

The T-80BVM, one of Russia’s most advanced tanks, has become a notable acquisition for Ukraine as its military continues to make unexpected gains in this strategically important area.

Twice as many as Russia

The Ukrainian offensive in the Kursk region has caught both Russian forces and Western analysts off guard.

While the offensive is believed to be part of a meticulously planned operation that could extend well into next year, Ukrainian forces have faced significant losses.

American media reports suggest that Ukraine is losing up to twice as many armored vehicles as Russia. However, these losses are partially offset by the capture of Russian equipment, including the T-80BVM tanks.

The first T-80BVM was captured on August 11, abandoned by Russian soldiers as they fled. Just three days later, Ukrainian troops seized another tank of the same model. Now, social media images confirm that a third T-80BVM has been taken from Russian forces, further weakening Russia’s hold on the region.

A Formidable Asset

The loss of these tanks is significant for Russia. The T-80BVM is among the latest additions to the Russian military arsenal, equipped with advanced features such as enhanced Relikt reactive armor, improved main gun accuracy, and upgraded thermal imaging systems.

Despite retaining the 125mm gun of older models, these tanks boast superior targeting systems and compatibility with a wider range of munitions.

At around 46 tons, the T-80BVM can reach speeds of up to 75 km/h on roads and 45 km/h off-road, making it a formidable asset in the battlefield.
