Ukraine has intensified its drone attacks against critical infrastructure in Russia, targeting power plants and oil refineries in the Moscow and Tver regions.
Fires in Oil Refinery
These strikes have led to significant disruptions, including fires and emergency responses, highlighting the escalating conflict between the two nations, according to Digi24.
In the latest wave of attacks, Ukrainian drones caused fires at the Moscow oil refinery, owned by Gazprom Neft, and the Konakovo power plant in Tver, one of central Russia's major energy producers.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported that its air defense units destroyed 158 drones launched by Ukraine, including nine over Moscow and its surrounding areas. Despite these efforts, some drones managed to breach defenses and cause damage.
Acknowledged the Fire
Moscow's Mayor, Sergei Sobyanin, confirmed that multiple drones targeted the Moscow refinery, resulting in a fire at a technical facility within the plant. Russian news agency TASS described the fire as highly complex, potentially requiring additional rescue units. Gazprom Neft has declined to comment on the incident.
In Tver, Governor Igor Rudenya acknowledged a fire in the city of Konakovo but assured that electricity and gas supplies remained unaffected. Explosions were also reported near the Konakovo plant, though the extent of the damage remains unclear.
Meanwhile, an attempted drone strike on the Kashira power plant in the Moscow region resulted in no fires, damage, or casualties, according to local officials.
The Russian Defense Ministry noted that additional drones were intercepted over various regions, including Kursk, Bryansk, Voronezh, and Belgorod.
Despite the extensive number of drones destroyed, the full impact of the attacks remains undisclosed, as Russia rarely reveals the complete extent of the damage from Ukrainian strikes.
