On the night of October 23, Ukrainian air defense forces in Sumy Oblast successfully shot down 19 Russian Shahed drones, according to the Sumy Regional Military Administration’s announcement on Facebook.
The Shahed drones, often used in kamikaze-style attacks by Russia, have been a persistent threat in Ukraine.
Since the start of 2023, Sumy’s air defense has intercepted 394 Russian drones, referred to as "vultures" for their role in delivering destruction across the country.
On the same night, Ukrainian air defense systems were also active in the Kyiv region, targeting additional enemy drones. Ukrainian anti-aircraft units continue to play a crucial role in mitigating the impact of these attacks, which pose an ongoing threat to civilians and infrastructure.
