Military technology continues to evolve as nations seek innovative ways to enhance their defense capabilities. Ukraine, which has been at the forefront of drone warfare, has now revealed an upgraded version of its TLK-150 underwater drone, marking its first public appearance since 2023.

Upgraded Features and Design Changes

According to Defense Express, the TLK-150 was presented at an international defense event showcasing the latest advancements in Ukraine’s military-industrial sector. The new design features several modifications, including a repositioning of its electric motors from the stabilizers to the rear of the hull. This adjustment reduces the drone’s size, improves transportability, and enhances hydrodynamic efficiency.

The TLK-150 now has a sleeker, torpedo-like shape, which is expected to improve its operational performance. Although the exact weight of its warhead remains classified, estimates suggest it ranges between 20 kg and 50 kg. The drone measures 2.5 meters in length and has an operational range of 100 kilometers. It is equipped with a daytime camera, thermal imaging for night operations, GPS, and communication antennas mounted on a mast extending above the water’s surface.

The Expanding Toloka Drone Family

The TLK-150 is part of the broader Toloka family of underwater drones, which includes larger and more advanced models. The TLK-400, measuring between 4 and 6 meters in length, boasts a 1,200-kilometer range and can carry a warhead of up to 500 kg. The most powerful variant, the TLK-1000, spans between 4 and 12 meters, has a range of 2,000 kilometers, and can deliver a payload of up to 5,000 kg.

Implications for Ukraine’s Defense Strategy

With the new TLK-150 seemingly ready for mass production, its deployment could enhance Ukraine’s naval capabilities, particularly in countering maritime threats. The unveiling of this drone underscores Ukraine’s commitment to technological innovation in warfare, further strengthening its ability to defend against adversaries.
