Russia has relocated several of its Black Sea warships from Sevastopol in Crimea following ongoing Ukrainian attacks, according to Dmitri Rogozin, a Russian-appointed senator for the occupied Zaporozhye region.
Big Targets for Drones
Rogozin, a former head of the Russian space agency, confirmed the withdrawal, marking an official acknowledgment from Moscow that the fleet has been forced to move.
According to Ziare, Ukraine has claimed its strikes on Russian naval forces have driven the ships to Novorossiysk, a port further from the front lines. Rogozin backed this assertion, stating in an interview with Moskovsky Komsomolets:
"Our large ships have simply become big targets for enemy drones."
This is the first formal confirmation that the fleet's operations were disrupted due to Ukraine’s successful drone and missile strikes.
Technological Revolution
Rogozin also pointed out the changing nature of modern warfare, calling for Russia to prioritize developing drone technologies and enhancing its electronic warfare capabilities.
"We are witnessing a technological-military revolution," he said, stressing that the pace of drone innovation is shifting the balance on the battlefield each month.
He acknowledged that Russia had initially lagged in drone technology at the start of the conflict but has since made progress. However, Rogozin urged for faster development, especially the creation of dedicated drone units and investments in electronic warfare systems and satellite-guided targeting.
"Satellite and surface guidance systems are critical to overcoming electronic warfare and ensuring accurate strikes," he noted.
