Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov is scheduled to meet with U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin in Washington todau, on Tuesday, July 2nd, to discuss strengthening military cooperation between the two countries.

According to Ziare the meeting, announced by the U.S. Department of Defense and reported by Reuters.

Enhancing Ties

The meeting aims to enhance bilateral defense ties, address regional security issues, and bolster defense partnerships between the United States and Ukraine.

According to Deputy Press Secretary Sabrina Singh, discussions come in the wake of renewed appeals from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for increased military aid following a Russian airstrike in the Zaporojie region that claimed seven lives.

The United States has been Ukraine's largest provider of military assistance since Russia's incursion into Ukrainian territory. President Joe Biden's administration has committed over $50 billion in military aid to Ukraine starting from 2022, underscoring ongoing U.S. support.

Last week, the administration announced plans to supply Ukraine with $150 million worth of arms and ammunition, including HAWK air defense interceptors and 155mm artillery ammunition.

Zelensky emphasized the urgency of countering Russian military threats, stressing that swift international support would enable Ukraine to target Russian military infrastructure responsibly and move closer to peace.
