Ukrainian forces have successfully ambushed and destroyed a Russian armored column in Donetsk Oblast, using a Leopard 2A4 tank.

As reported by tech.wp.pl, the Ukrainian 33rd Mechanized Brigade strategically leveraged the terrain and nearby buildings to launch a devastating surprise attack.

Footage of the battle, released by Ukraine's "Chortytsia" Operational-Strategic Group of Forces, shows the Leopard tank eliminating at least five Russian vehicles.

According to the Ukrainian account, the Russian column was traveling on a dirt road near a wooded area when it was hit by direct fire from the tank.

Ukrainian forces used the cover of village structures to maneuver and continue firing, catching the Russian troops off guard.

Tactical Advantage and Destruction of Enemy Vehicles

The ambush caused significant losses for the Russian forces, with multiple vehicles being destroyed—some reportedly hit multiple times.

The Ukrainian tank crew's tactics demonstrated the effectiveness of their equipment, even when outnumbered.

The Leopard 2A4 is among the most commonly used NATO tanks in Ukraine’s arsenal.

Although these tanks, manufactured in the late 1980s and early 1990s, have limitations compared to more modern models, they have proven highly effective on the battlefield.

Ukrainian soldiers, including those from the 155th Mechanized Brigade, have praised the performance of the Leopard tanks.

Capabilities of the Leopard 2A4

Equipped with a Rheinmetall L/44 smoothbore 120mm main gun, the Leopard 2A4 remains a formidable weapon. Its fire control system, the EMES 15, includes thermal imaging capabilities, giving it an edge in offensive operations.

Auxiliary armaments include 7.62mm machine guns and smoke grenade launchers.

Powered by a 1,500-horsepower engine, the Leopard 2A4 can reach speeds of up to 70 km/h.

These tanks have been instrumental in Ukraine’s ability to counter Russia's older Soviet-era armor, which still dominates the battlefield.

This latest ambush highlights Ukraine’s continued tactical ingenuity in defending against numerically superior Russian forces.
