The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) attempted to cross the Ukrainian-Russian border into Russia's Kursk region overnight, according to acting Kursk Governor Alexey Smirnov.

The attempt was thwarted by fighters from the FSB border guards and the Russian Armed Forces, who prevented the border from being breached.

Details of the Incident

Fighting between Ukrainian and Russian forces has been ongoing since early Tuesday morning along the border with Ukraine’s Sumy region, as reported by the Russian Defence Ministry.

The ministry stated that around 300 Ukrainian troops, traveling in a convoy of 11 tanks and more than 20 armored vehicles, approached the Russian border.

In response, Russia's border guards and Air Force launched strikes on Ukrainian military targets in the Sumy region, with reinforcements deployed to the area.

According to the Telegram channel Mash, a Ukrainian sabotage group of about 100 servicemen attempted to enter the Kursk region overnight.

Reports suggest that 20 Ukrainian "saboteurs" were killed, and another 50 were wounded during the skirmish.

Citing information from a pro-war online forum, Telegram channel Astra reported that a small group of Ukrainian soldiers managed to cross the border at a narrow section of the front line, advancing several hundred meters into Russian territory.

Casualties and Damage from Shelling

The overnight fighting led to injuries and damage in the Kursk region.

In the town of Sudzha, five people, including three children, were injured when the area came under Ukrainian shelling.

Several residential buildings were heavily damaged in the attack.

In total, 26 Ukrainian drones were reportedly shot down in the region, with one drone striking a car in the village of Glushkovo, injuring two people.

In a separate incident, the Russian village of Yasnye Zori in the southwestern Belgorod region was shelled by Ukrainian forces, resulting in the death of one person and damage to a residential building, according to Belgorod Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov.
