Ukrainian armed forces have again targeted and sunk the Russian submarine Rostov-on-Don, a key asset of the Black Sea Fleet.
It was Previously Damaged
According to Ziare this incident, occurring in the Sevastopol port, marks the second such attack on this vessel in less than a year. The submarine, capable of launching Kalibr missiles, had been previously damaged by a Ukrainian missile strike on September 13 of the previous year. Despite repairs and subsequent testing, it now faces total loss.
The Ukrainian military also reported successful strikes on a Russian S-400 air defense system stationed in temporarily occupied Crimea. According to the Ukrainian General Staff, four launchers of this advanced system were significantly damaged. This attack further undermines the security of the Russian fleet within Ukrainian territorial waters in the Black Sea.
Other Targets Over the Weekend
Additionally, Ukrainian drones targeted several Russian sites over the weekend. Notable attacks included a military airfield and an oil depot in Russia. Ukrainian sources indicated that the drones effectively struck the Morozovsk airfield in Rostov, which stores aircraft and guided bombs. The Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized the need for continued assaults on Russian airfields to neutralize the threat posed by Russian fighter jets.
Russian authorities have reported the interception and destruction of 76 Ukrainian drones, primarily in the Rostov, Kursk, Belgorod, and Oryol regions. The Russian defense ministry stated that most drones were intercepted in areas near the Ukrainian border. A fire at an oil depot in Belgorod, triggered by a drone attack, was quickly contained, according to local officials.
