The Ukrainian military has officially accepted the PBV 302 armored personnel carriers from Sweden, marking a significant boost to its ground capabilities.

Used Extensively over the Years

According to Tech these vehicles were part of Sweden's 16th military aid package, announced in May, and represent a key addition to Ukraine's defense resources.

The Swedish government decided to donate its entire fleet of PBV 302 vehicles, complete with spare parts and ammunition, to support Ukraine in its ongoing conflict. The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense has confirmed the integration of these armored carriers into its forces.

Originally produced between 1966 and 1971, the PBV 302s have a storied history as Sweden's primary infantry fighting vehicles until they were replaced by newer models, such as the CV90. Hundreds of these units were manufactured and have been used extensively over the years.

Excell in difficult Environments

Each PBV 302 measures 5.35 meters in length and can transport up to 10 soldiers in addition to a three-member crew. The vehicle is armed with a 20mm automatic cannon and has a capacity of over 500 rounds, as well as smoke grenade launchers for battlefield concealment.

Despite their age, Ukrainian officials express confidence in the operational effectiveness of the PBV 302s, particularly for challenging terrain.

The vehicles are designed to excel in difficult environments, weighing over 13 tons and featuring wide tracks that distribute weight effectively. This allows the PBV 302s to traverse soft and loose ground, including marshes and sandy areas, and even cross water obstacles.

Powered by a Volvo-Penta diesel engine generating nearly 300 horsepower, the PBV 302 can reach speeds of up to 66 km/h on land and approximately 10 km/h in water.

With their proven capabilities, these armored personnel carriers are expected to play a vital role in enhancing Ukraine's operational flexibility on the battlefield.
