Wars drive innovation as nations adapt to ever-evolving challenges on the battlefield. Ukraine’s conflict with Russia has seen the use of advanced military technology as a crucial part of its defense strategy.

By integrating Western support into its arsenal, Ukraine has turned to cutting-edge weaponry to maintain resilience.

One such tool is the French-made AASM Hammer bomb, which has proven its value in critical air combat missions.

Remarkable Precision

Ukraine’s air force has incorporated AASM Hammer bombs into its operations using MiG-29s, Su-27s, and Su-25s. These bombs enable strikes on key Russian targets from safer distances.

A notable instance of their effectiveness occurred in the Kherson region, where Ukrainian forces successfully targeted a Russian command post in Lubymivka according to WP.

Although modern F-16 jets have recently bolstered Ukraine’s fleet, much of the air force still relies on upgraded MiG-29s provided by Poland and Slovakia.

These jets, paired with precision weaponry like the AASM Hammer, have become vital in combating Russian advances.

The AASM Hammer offers distinctive advantages over comparable munitions, such as the American JDAM-ER bombs.

A built-in rocket booster allows for low-altitude deployment, extending its range to 15 kilometers.

This feature enables pilots to strike heavily defended targets while reducing their exposure to advanced air defense systems like Russia’s Pantsir-S1.

These bombs are also known for their remarkable precision. With guidance systems that include satellite, laser, and thermal imaging, they can hit targets with an accuracy of up to one meter.

The thermal imaging capability is particularly effective against moving targets, enabling the bombs to autonomously locate and destroy them.
