Tanks have become a crucial element in the war in Ukraine, with both sides relying on these armored vehicles to gain an advantage on the battlefield.

Capturing enemy tanks provides not only equipment but also insight into the opponent’s military technology, adding a valuable layer to the ongoing conflict.

In a recent operation, Ukrainian soldiers from the K-2 battalion seized a Russian T-90 tank.

Initially, its specific model was unclear due to the presence of a drone protection system.

After closer inspection, it was identified as the T-90S "Bhishma," a version created for the Indian Army.

This advanced tank will now be incorporated into Ukrainian forces, according to WP.

The T-90S is a modified version of the Russian T-90, developed through a partnership between Russia and India.

Named after Bhishma, a warrior from the Indian epic Mahabharata, the tank is designed to operate in challenging environments and is a key asset in India’s armored fleet.

One of the tank’s upgrades includes an advanced battlefield management system, which allows for quicker decision-making and more effective targeting in fast-changing combat scenarios.

It also features an improved climate control system for greater reliability in extreme weather conditions.

Defensive capabilities include Kontakt-5 reactive armor and the Shtora-1 active protection system, which interferes with laser-guided anti-tank missiles.

The T-90S is also armed with a 125mm smoothbore gun capable of firing a wide range of munitions, including guided missiles like the 9M119 Refleks, enhancing its range and firepower.

Powered by a V-92S2 diesel engine with 1,000 horsepower, the T-90S can reach speeds of 60 km/h on roads and 35-40 km/h off-road.

Its operational range is approximately 500 kilometers, which can be extended with additional fuel tanks.

The captured T-90S is expected to boost the capabilities of the Ukrainian K-2 battalion.

Its advanced design and features will provide Ukraine with another tool in its fight, adding to its ongoing efforts to counter Russian forces on the battlefield.
