Ukrainian soldiers from the Separate Special Operations Center "West," part of the 8th Regiment named after Prince Izyaslav Mstislavich, recently engaged in a grueling eight-hour battle against a significantly larger force of North Korean soldiers.
This development was reported in a video shared on the unit's official Telegram channel.
“This was the most challenging and critical battle for our unit. Enemy forces outnumbered us dozens of times,” the statement read.
The confrontation involved North Korean units using small arms. While no enemy casualties were reported in this instance, one North Korean soldier was captured on video during the fight.
Despite the overwhelming odds, the unit focused on neutralizing the enemy and ensuring the safety of all its members. Ukrainian special forces successfully evacuated under fire using HMMWV armored vehicles.
No injuries were reported among the Ukrainian personnel.
According to a report by Militarnyi, the 8th Regiment has recently intensified operations against North Korean troops aiding Russian forces in the Kursk region. On January 7, the regiment reported eliminating 13 North Korean soldiers during a special operation, recovering documents and equipment from the battlefield.
Among the recovered items were a machine gun fitted with a collimator sight, a Chinese-Russian "Azart" radio station, a drone detector, and a letter addressed to the ruling Workers' Party of Korea.
