Tensions in the Middle East continue to escalate, with conflicts spilling into areas far beyond the initial flashpoints.
Yemen, a country already devastated by years of war, has become another battleground for international powers.
The United States recently conducted airstrikes against Houthi rebel targets, intensifying the ongoing conflict, reports Digi24.
The US military announced it had attacked two underground weapons depots belonging to the Iran-backed Houthi rebels.
These facilities were allegedly used to carry out attacks on US Navy ships and merchant vessels in the southern Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.
According to US Central Command (CentCom), the operations caused no injuries or damage to American personnel or equipment.
Houthi-controlled Al-Massira television reported that five strikes hit the Amran governorate, and two others targeted the Sanaa governorate.
Sanaa is home to Yemen’s rebel-controlled capital. The US has not confirmed the specific locations or the number of strikes but stated that its actions were aimed at neutralizing threats to maritime security.
Since the Gaza conflict began in October 2023, following a major Hamas attack on Israel, Houthi rebels have increased their attacks.
They have targeted ships they claim are linked to Israel as an expression of solidarity with the Palestinians.
In response, the United States, a key ally of Israel, has launched several strikes against Houthi positions.
Some operations have reportedly been conducted in coordination with the United Kingdom.
In late December, the US military targeted Houthi military sites in Sanaa as part of its efforts to deter further attacks.
Houthi forces have also escalated their actions against Israel, prompting retaliatory strikes from Israeli forces.
The situation in Yemen reflects broader regional dynamics, with international alliances and rivalries fueling the conflict.
For Yemenis, however, this represents another layer of suffering in a war that has already claimed thousands of lives and displaced millions.
