The effectiveness of Germany's Gepard anti-aircraft system has once again been highlighted in real combat conditions on the Ukrainian front.
Drone Succesfully Destroyed
A recently shared video on social media captures the system skillfully downing a Russian Shahed drone with just a couple of short bursts from its heavy machine guns.
In the footage, a Gepard armored vehicle fires a brief burst from its mounted weapons, followed by a slight adjustment based on its onboard tracking systems, according to Digi24.
After another short burst, an explosion can be seen in the sky, accompanied by a plume of black smoke, indicating that the Shahed drone was successfully destroyed. The cheers from the Ukrainian soldiers operating the Gepard reflect their excitement and satisfaction with this achievement.
One or Two Short Bursts
Experts on social media have praised the Gepard’s performance.
A commentator on the platform X noted:
“The effectiveness of the Gepard SPAAG (Flakpanzer) in Ukrainian service never ceases to amaze me. One or two short bursts and the Shahed-136/131 drone is down.”
This sentiment is echoed by many who recognize the Gepard's pivotal role in air defense.
The Romanian army also possesses Gepard systems, which have recently been the subject of misinformation online. Claims circulated that these systems had been employed to intercept Russian drones near the Ukrainian border along the Danube River.
However, the Romanian Ministry of National Defense quickly debunked these allegations, reaffirming the reliability and precision of their air defense systems.
