Intense fighting continues in the region near the Russia-Ukraine border, with Ukrainian forces successfully destroying a Russian T-90M tank — the most advanced tank currently in service with the Russian army.

The Best in The World

The T-90M, introduced into production in 1992, is equipped with a 125 mm smoothbore cannon, 7.62 mm and 12.7 mm machine guns, and the TSU-1-7 Shtora active protection system.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has often claimed that the T-90M tanks are "the best in the world," making their loss particularly significant.

According to reports, Ukrainian forces broke through Russian defenses along the border on August 6, rapidly advancing and seizing approximately 1,035 square kilometers (400 square miles) of territory, according to WP.

In the following days, the offensive slowed, but Russian forces have been unable to push the Ukrainians back. American magazine Forbes suggested that the Russians missed their best opportunity to repel the Ukrainian advance on the first day of the offensive.

Complete Destruction

Recent footage shared on social media shows the destruction of the Russian T-90M tank. Both Ukrainian and Russian forces have deployed their most advanced tanks to the conflict.

Ukraine is utilizing tanks supplied by NATO countries, including British Challenger 2s, German Leopard 2A6s, and older yet highly regarded Polish PT-91 Twardy tanks. These tanks provide significant firepower and advanced technology to Ukrainian forces.

On the Russian side, in addition to the T-90M, they are deploying T-80BVM tanks, which are valued for their Relikt reactive armor and Sosna-U fire control systems. Despite these assets, Ukrainian forces have previously managed to destroy these tanks in the region and have even captured some from Russian forces.
