A Vietnamese frigate, armed with missiles, has docked in Vladivostok in Russia, for what has been described as a "business visit," according to the Russian Pacific Fleet's press service.

Designed for Militairy Tasks

The ship, named Hung Dao, arrived on Wednesday and is scheduled to stay in the Russian port until the end of July, as reported by Hotnews.

The Hung Dao frigate, built in Russia and commissioned by the Vietnamese Navy in 2018, showcases the ongoing military cooperation between the two nations.

This vessel is designed for a range of military tasks, including detecting, tracking, and engaging enemy surface, underwater, and aerial targets. Classified as a light frigate, it has a maximum displacement of 2,500 tons.

A Gesture of Goodwill

The visit comes shortly after Russian President Vladimir Putin's recent trip to Vietnam, where he expressed a desire to develop a "reliable security architecture" in the Asia-Pacific region. This visit underscores the strategic partnership and defense ties between Russia and Vietnam, particularly in a time of shifting alliances and growing geopolitical tensions in the region.

Russia's Rosoboronoexport, the state agency responsible for arms exports, has highlighted the capabilities of the Hung Dao, noting its advanced technology and versatility in modern naval warfare. The arrival of the Vietnamese frigate in Vladivostok is seen as a gesture of goodwill and a sign of strengthening military relations.
