Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has vowed to rebuild a children's hospital in Kyiv that was severely damaged by a Russian missile strike earlier this week.
Already Allocated Support
In a video message on July 10, Zelensky announced that approximately 100 million hryvnias (about $2.45 million) have already been allocated to support the hospital, with an additional 300 million hryvnias expected to follow.
The missile strike, which was part of a larger wave of attacks across Ukraine on July 8, resulted in over 40 deaths and more than 100 injuries. The bombing of the Kyiv children's hospital and the surrounding area has sparked international outrage and prompted an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council.
A Day Of Mourning
Tuesday was a day of mourning in Kyiv to honor those killed in the attack. Moscow has denied responsibility, claiming the damage was caused by a stray Ukrainian anti-aircraft missile. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov accused Kyiv of exploiting the tragedy to coincide with Zelensky’s participation in the NATO summit in Washington.
At the summit, NATO countries announced that additional air defense systems will be sent to Ukraine. Zelensky stated that these systems will help prevent future "brutal attacks" like the one that struck the children's hospital.
