Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy paid a visit to the frontline positions of the 25th Separate Airborne Sicheslav Brigade in Pokrovsk, a strategic city in the Donetsk region. The brigade is tasked with defending the city against ongoing Russian aggression.
During his visit, Zelenskyy met with soldiers, presented them with awards, and expressed gratitude for their resilience and dedication.
“Your courage and sacrifice are the cornerstone of Ukraine’s defense,” he told the soldiers, as cited by United24 Media.
Pokrovsk has emerged as a critical point in Ukraine’s eastern defense strategy, facing relentless pressure from advancing Russian forces. Located in the Donetsk region, the city lies just 20 kilometers from Russian positions.
The city has been a prime target in one of the most intense offensives.
The Ukrainian General Staff has reported that nearly half of Russia’s daily assaults are concentrated near Pokrovsk. Despite these challenges, the city is still operational, though authorities have advised residents to evacuate as the security situation continues to worsen.
Heavy fighting is ongoing, not just in Pokrovsk but also in nearby towns such as Toretsk and Kurakhove.
