If you are spending your summer vacation in Italy this year, be cautious of the intense heat.
In the past two days, four people have lost their lives in Italy due to the extreme heat wave sweeping the country.
According to Italian news outlet ANSA, a 70-year-old man fainted and died on the beach in Giovinazzo near Bari in Southern Italy over the weekend.
Two other individuals also succumbed to the heat on beaches in the southern region of Puglia on Saturday. Another potentially heat-related death of an elderly man was reported in the capital of Rome.
Heat Wave Impact
Eleven Italian cities have been placed on red alert due to the severe heat, posing a threat not only to vulnerable populations but also to active, healthy individuals.
Forecasts predict the intense heat will continue until at least the end of the month.
The heat wave is not limited to Italy.
In Romania, the emergency services received nearly 100,000 calls due to the extreme temperatures.
In Greece, the 40-degree heat in June led to the deaths of six tourists from Europe, mostly elderly individuals. Additionally, many Greek islands are now facing water shortages at the height of the tourist season after a dry spring.
