Employees at Lidl stores in Brandenburg and Berlin were stunned to find large quantities of cocaine hidden within banana boxes during the routine unpacking of this morning's fruit delivery.
According to the German newspaper BZ, the narcotics were uncovered last Thursday morning across multiple locations.
Stores in at least four towns in Brandenburg and seven in Berlin reported similar findings, with each location discovering between 20 and 100 kilograms of cocaine among the bananas.
Following the discovery, a police force was dispatched to guard the stores and secure the narcotics.
The Brandenburg police have confirmed the seizure of the cocaine, according to a spokesperson.
