A highway accident near Wilson, North Carolina, led to an unexpected reptile rescue effort.

After a collision involving a camper van and a truck on I-95, 28 snakes—some venomous—crawled out of the camper and onto the roadway, along with lizards, turtles, dogs, and a cat.

The camper was carrying not just five people but an assortment of animals, including pythons, rattlesnakes, bearded dragons, turtles, two dogs, and a cat.

Local authorities revealed that the animals were being transported to an exhibition by their owner, who works with a company specializing in such shows.

The crash occurred when the truck driver, reportedly distracted or asleep, rear-ended the camper. The truck driver sustained serious injuries and was hospitalized, while the camper’s occupants and animals escaped unharmed.

Upon arriving at the scene, police discovered snakes slithering out of the damaged vehicle.

The reptiles, disoriented but uninjured, scattered onto the highway.

As reported by WP Tech, the authorities managed to recover all the escaped animals, including the venomous snakes, thanks in part to the cool weather, which made the cold-blooded creatures less active.
