Finnish authorities have seized around 40 Russian-owned properties valued at over $38 million (or €35 million), including a beach area used by Russian diplomats.

This action follows an international ruling by the Arbitration Tribunal at The Hague's Permanent Court of Arbitration, which ordered Russia to compensate Ukrainian energy company Naftogaz with $5 billion for losses related to the 2014 annexation of Crimea.

The confiscated assets include the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Helsinki and a 17-hectare seaside property in Kirkkonummi, with an additional 3.5 hectares of marine area.

Several residential properties are also included, notably four apartments in central Turku, whose intended use remains unclear, according to Finnish authorities.

According to YLE, these properties can no longer be sold or transferred.

In response, Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov announced plans to challenge the seizures in court.
