In a tragic accident at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport on Wednesday, a person was fatally caught in a running aircraft engine.

The incident occurred as the plane was being prepared for takeoff to Billund, Denmark.

Dutch airline KLM confirmed the accident but provided no additional details about the victim.

The Dutch border police, responsible for security at Schiphol, reported that passengers were safely evacuated from the plane following the incident. Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.

According to Die Presse, the aircraft involved was a short-haul plane from Brazilian manufacturer Embraer, operated by KLM's regional subsidiary Cityhopper.

Images from broadcaster Dutch media showed fire engines and ambulances at the scene near the departure terminal.
