Electric bikes, or eBikes, have revolutionized transportation for millions worldwide.

Offering an eco-friendly alternative to traditional commuting, they combine the ease of cycling with the power of an electric motor, making long journeys more manageable and steep hills less daunting.

From city streets to mountain trails, eBikes have captured the imagination of riders of all ages.

With their popularity comes a growing need to protect these often-expensive investments, according to 20Minutos.

Rollout in Summer 2025

At CES 2025, Bosch eBike Systems unveiled a groundbreaking innovation that addresses one of the most pressing concerns for eBike owners: theft.

The company introduced Battery Lock, a digital anti-theft feature designed to secure eBike batteries, one of the most valuable and vulnerable components of an electric bicycle.

Battery Lock works through Bosch’s eBike Flow app and can also be activated via their Kiox 300 and 500 displays.

When users turn off their eBikes, the system automatically locks the battery, rendering it useless if removed.

Even if a thief manages to steal the battery and insert it into another bike, it won’t provide pedal assistance, significantly reducing its resale value.

The feature mimics the concept of a "Lost Mode" for smartphones, where a stolen device becomes inoperable.

For eBike owners, this ensures that their battery cannot be used without proper authentication.

The system can also be remotely unlocked, restoring full functionality to the battery when needed.

This innovation will be part of Bosch’s paid subscription service, Flow+, which already includes features like eBike Alarm.

Scheduled for rollout in summer 2025, Battery Lock will be compatible with all of Bosch’s intelligent battery systems.

With eBikes costing thousands of dollars, owners are often anxious about theft. Bosch’s new technology addresses this concern directly, giving riders peace of mind.
