China Southern Airlines, the largest airline in China, has announced the suspension of its direct Moscow–Beijing route from January 20 to March 30, according to the Association of Tour Operators of Russia and United24 Media.

The affected flight, CZ342, was initially scheduled to operate daily.

But tickets are only available on the airline’s website up to January 19, with bookings resuming after the winter schedule ends on March 30.

During the suspension, travelers can choose alternative routes, including flights with layovers in Guangzhou or routes like Shenzhen–Moscow and Vladivostok–Yangtze.

The Association of Tour Operators of Russia estimates the suspension will affect approximately 15,000 to 17,000 passengers.

On January 10, the European Union Aviation Safety Agency issued stricter guidelines for airlines flying to the EU, advising them to avoid five specific regions in Russian airspace.

Additionally, sanctions have severely impacted Russia’s ability to maintain and service its passenger planes, leaving them without access to critical electronics and proper maintenance.
