China has called for a peaceful resolution between North and South Korea, urging both sides to take steps to avoid further conflict on the Korean Peninsula.
This statement came from Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian during a briefing, in response to North Korea's recent intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) launch, as reported by Ukrinform.
“As a close neighbor to the Korean Peninsula, China is closely monitoring developments in the region,” Lin said, emphasizing Beijing’s interest in maintaining stability.
While Lin refrained from directly condemning North Korea’s missile launch and its ongoing weapons development, he reiterated China’s position on peace.
“We have always believed that maintaining peace and stability on the peninsula and advancing a political solution are in the best interests of all parties,” Lin added.
On Thursday, North Korea claimed to have tested a new type of long-range solid-fuel ICBM. South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff have also provided preliminary estimates suggesting that this test involved a new solid-fuel missile design.
The missile test underscores heightened tensions in the region and follows repeated U.N. sanctions on North Korea aimed at curbing its missile and nuclear ambitions.
In response to these developments, China continues to advocate for diplomatic efforts over confrontation.
