The situation on the Korean Peninsula remains tense as North Korea continues to expand its military capabilities and strengthen ties with Russia.

Now, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has delivered a stark warning.

He accused the United States of creating the most dangerous confrontation the region has faced in its history.

Kim spoke during a military exhibition in Pyongyang, where he claimed that the risk of nuclear war is now greater than ever, according to Digi24.

He said past negotiations with Washington only reinforced his belief that the U.S. maintains a hostile stance toward North Korea.

"Never before have the belligerent parties on the Korean Peninsula faced such a dangerous confrontation, which could escalate into the most destructive thermonuclear war," Kim said.

He added that attempts to engage diplomatically showed no desire from the U.S. to coexist peacefully.

During Donald Trump’s presidency, Kim and Trump held three meetings in 2018 and 2019.

The summits, which took place in Singapore, Hanoi, and the demilitarized zone, failed to produce a lasting agreement.

The U.S. pushed for North Korea to abandon its nuclear weapons program, while Kim demanded relief from economic sanctions.

Trump has claimed that his personal relationship with Kim prevented a nuclear war, but North Korea has not commented on Trump’s reelection campaign or recent remarks.

Kim also urged North Korea’s military to upgrade its arsenal to include "ultra-modern" weapons. He pledged to continue strengthening the country’s defensive and strategic capabilities.

The military exhibition showcased tactical and strategic weaponry, signaling ongoing advancements in North Korea’s military technology.

His comments follow reports of deepening military cooperation between North Korea and Russia. Pyongyang has reportedly sent over 10,000 troops to Russia to support its war in Ukraine.

Last week, Kim called on his military to improve its readiness for war and accused the U.S. and its allies of provoking tensions to their "worst stage in history."
