A British-Canadian couple's attempt to sail across the Atlantic ended tragically as their bodies were found on Sable Island, Nova Scotia.
Brett Clibbery, aged 70, and his wife, Sarah Packwood, aged 60, were discovered dead in a lifeboat after their voyage took a disastrous turn.
Mystery in the Atlantic
Clibbery and Packwood began their journey from Halifax Harbour in Nova Scotia on June 11. They set sail aboard their 42-foot sailboat, the SV Theros, with their destination being the Azores, a group of Portuguese islands approximately 2,000 miles away.
But they never reached the islands.
According to CNN, the couple was reported missing on June 18. Nearly a month later, on July 10, their bodies were discovered drifting in a lifeboat.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) confirmed the discovery and stated that an investigation is ongoing to determine why the couple abandoned their boat and ended up in the lifeboat.
Sable Island, known as "the graveyard of the Atlantic," has a notorious history of shipwrecks.
James Clibbery, Brett’s son, paid tribute to his father and stepmother on Facebook, expressing deep sorrow.
“They were amazing people, and there isn’t anything that will fill the hole that has been left by their, so far unexplained passing,” he wrote.
A Life of Adventure
Clibbery and Packwood were known for their adventurous spirit, documenting their travels on their YouTube channel, Theros Adventures.
Their ill-fated journey was part of what they called their “Green Odyssey,” a mission to prove that long-distance travel could be accomplished without burning fossil fuels. “We have an electric boat,” Clibbery explained in a video posted on May 13. “We charge the engine with solar panels.”
Their love story began in 2015 when they met at a bus stop in London.
Clibbery was in the UK to donate a kidney to his sister, and after their chance meeting, the couple quickly grew close. Clibbery helped Packwood care for her dying mother, and she supported him through his kidney operation. Their bond strengthened, and Packwood later joined Clibbery in Canada. They continued their sailing adventures together, with Clibbery proposing to Packwood in the main cabin of the Theros.
