Traveling to another country often comes with concerns about visas, customs, and safety.
But for transgender travelers, new U.S. policies may create additional hurdles.
Denmark's Foreign Ministry has updated its travel advice for transgender citizens heading to the United States, reports Ziare.
Officials recommend that travelers confirm the latest rules before departure.
In a statement on Friday, March 21, the ministry urged those with an 'X' gender marker on their passport or those who have changed their gender to contact the U.S. embassy before traveling.
The goal is to clarify entry requirements and avoid any unexpected issues at the border.
This follows recent policy shifts in the U.S. under President Donald Trump.
During his inauguration speech, Trump declared that the U.S. would recognize only two sexes: male and female, as assigned at birth.
This policy would eliminate the non-binary gender 'X' from official documents.
LGBT+ Denmark, a leading advocacy group, raised concerns about how this could affect travelers.
The organization contacted the Danish Foreign Ministry, urging them to update their travel recommendations.
Susanne Branner Jespersen, one of the group's leaders, explained that they fear transgender individuals might face difficulties at U.S. airports.
She warned that some travelers could be stopped, denied entry, or subjected to uncomfortable questioning.
Since taking office for a second term, Trump has introduced several policies targeting transgender rights.
His administration has proposed bans on transgender individuals serving in the military.
He also seeks to prevent them from competing in women’s sports and wants to restrict gender reassignment treatments for those under 19.
Despite these changes, Danish officials stated that no Danish citizens have been denied entry to the U.S. since Trump’s new term began in January.
However, they continue to advise caution. Travelers are encouraged to gather all necessary information before planning their trip.
For transgender individuals, these new restrictions add another layer of complexity to international travel.
While no official cases of entry denial have been reported, uncertainty remains. As policies continue to evolve, staying informed is the best way to ensure a smooth journey.
