Elon Musk has made headlines with a drastic decision to fire all employees in one of Tesla's departments due to a discrimination case involving a female employee.
According to sources close to the company, the decision stems from a controversial case involving a female employee who claims to have been subjected to discrimination.
The layoffs, announced in an email to the department's employees, have sent shockwaves through the tech industry, particularly because of how the situation was handled.
Musk himself has been less forthcoming about the details but confirmed to the press that "when a department does not live up to Tesla's ethical standards, there is no other option but to take drastic measures."
The original issue arose when the woman presented evidence of what she described as "systematic degrading treatment" within her department.
After an internal investigation, Musk and Tesla's management decided to dissolve the entire department.
"We do not tolerate discrimination of any kind, and this action reflects our commitment to ensuring a safe and respectful work environment for all our employees," said Musk.
He added, however, that Tesla plans to rehire personnel for the necessary roles in a newly established department that better reflects the company's values.
This move has sparked debate on how large tech companies handle internal complaints and their policies regarding the workplace environment.
Critics have argued that while the layoffs may solve the immediate problem, there might be a need for deeper changes in Tesla's corporate culture.
