The European Union has received "credible information" that Iran is supplying ballistic missiles to Russia, EU spokesperson Peter Stano said on Sept. 9, as reported by Deutsche Welle.

This follows reports that Tehran is supporting Russia's war against Ukraine with missile shipments.

Stano confirmed that the EU has reliable intelligence from its allies about these deliveries. He warned that if this is confirmed, it would be a serious escalation of Iran's support for Russia's illegal war in Ukraine.

The EU is working with its member states and international partners to investigate further. Stano added that the EU would take quick action, including introducing strong new measures against Iran if the reports are proven true.

U.S. State Department spokesperson Vedant Patel also warned that the transfer of Iranian missiles to Russia would be a "dramatic escalation."

According to The Times, a Ukrainian military source claimed that a shipment of 200 Iranian ballistic missiles arrived at a Caspian Sea port on Sept. 4.

Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry said that if Iran continues supplying missiles to Russia, it would seriously harm relations between the two countries.

Iran has denied the reports, calling them "psychological warfare," while Russia gave an unclear response. Russia already uses its own ballistic missiles in Ukraine, such as the Kinzhal and Iskander-M, and has also received missiles from North Korea for its attacks on Ukrainian cities.
