Social media is everywhere. People use it to connect, share ideas, and keep up with the world. But it’s also a place where false information can spread fast.

That’s why the European Union created a law to hold tech companies responsible for what’s allowed on their platforms.

It’s called the Digital Services Act, and now it’s being put to the test.

The EU is getting ready to hit Elon Musk’s platform X (formerly Twitter) with a huge fine, writes Digi24. According to several sources, the fine could be over $1 billion.

That’s just for one investigation. More could follow if the platform continues to break the rules.

Officials say X hasn’t done enough to stop the spread of harmful or illegal content.

The EU wants companies to actively remove false news and dangerous posts. Regulators believe X failed to do this. Now they plan to act.

The fine is not the only thing on the table. The EU is also expected to demand changes to the platform itself.

They want the company to improve how it monitors and removes harmful content. These penalties are expected to be announced in the summer.

This will be the first major case under the new law. The EU wants to send a clear message to tech companies. If you don’t play by the rules, there will be serious consequences.

There is also a second investigation in progress. It focuses on how the platform allows hate speech and serious misinformation to spread. EU officials believe this creates real harm.

The fine and the case are likely to raise tensions between the EU and the United States.

X is seen as close to former President Trump, and some European leaders are worried this could stir up trouble between the two powers.

Still, the EU says rules are rules. No company, no matter how big, gets a free pass.
